Musical Chairs 2018

  • Cecil Sharp House 2 Regent's Park Road London, England, NW1 7AY United Kingdom (map)

Musical Chairs offers you the chance to come and play in a real-life orchestra for a day. You'll spend a day working with our team of professional music tutors and the young musicians from our unique National Orchestra for All (NOFA), rehearsing and performing two iconic works of the western canon – Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man. Now into its fourth year, come and join us for an exciting day of music-making, all in support of young musicians with complex lives.

Pick up an instrument you once used to play that’s been gathering dust for years, or try a new instrument for the first time. Perhaps you’re a musician who has always dreamed of trying out a new instrument? The choice is yours! All the music is specially arranged and caters for all abilities - whether you're a complete beginner or virtuoso.

All the money we raise on the day will be used to deliver our enriching annual programme of OFA activities and to unlock access to the life-changing experience of ensemble music-making for 11-18 years olds with complex lives.

When and where is it? We'll spend a full day rehearsing at Cecil Sharp House in Camden from 10-4pm on Saturday 24 February 2018. There will be a mixture of full rehearsals and smaller sectional rehearsals in your instrumental groups. At 4pm, we'll be holding an informal concert to friends, family and supporters, followed by a well-earned drink.

How can I take part? There are many ways to secure your seat in the orchestra for Musical Chairs 2018. You can raise sponsorship, make a donation to secure your play or even gift a place for a friend or loved one. The suggested fundraising target or donation to take part is £250, but any contribution is welcome. Once you have signed up to take part via our online form, one of the OFA team will be in touch to explain next steps in terms of securing your seat and will send you your music so you can start practicing!

Hmmm, I’m still not convinced… If you’re worried about being rusty on your instrument (or even totally new to it) don’t be! New to Musical Chairs 2018, we are offering up to three after work First Aid Clinics in the run up to the event where you can come along for extra support and help. A friendly member of our team will be on hand to take you through your part and show you how to play the tricky bits.

I want to sign up right now! Early bird sign ups (before 5 November) receive a FREE NOFA t-shirt and have priority choice with your seat location in the section (ranging from right next to the tutor to the back of the section depending on your preference!). Use our online form to sign up today!

All of us at OFA really appreciate the support of our Musical Chairs participants and would be delighted to answer any additional questions you might have. Please get in touch with us on 0207 267 4141 or at info@orchestrasforall.org to find out more. If you are not able to take part, we would be grateful if you would consider circulating the information about this event to friends and family – the more the merrier!
